The Employer/Provider Workshop is for people (employers, HR personnel, housing providers, property managers) seeking information about understanding human rights protection, avoiding liability, creating positive organizational cultures.
Workshop Goals:
- Expand knowledge of gender expression, gender identity and protection under human rights legislation.
- Gain confidence to address workplace issues related to diverse gender expressions or gender identities
- Protect organization from risk of discrimination or complaint by promoting knowledge of rights, responsibilities and accommodation.
The Alberta Human Rights Act was amended in 2015 to add Gender Identity and Gender Expression as expressly prohibited grounds of discrimination. This amendment makes it clear and explicit that people cannot discriminate based on either of these protected grounds. The Act protects individuals from discrimination in the areas of:Housing Tenancy, Hiring and Employment, Signs and Publications Goods, services, accommodations or public facilities, Membership in trade unions, employers’ organizations or occupational associations.
This workshop is made possible due to a grant from the Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund.
